I was shocked and sadened to hear that one of my closest high school friends, Tom Allen (TA) passed away. I hadn’t seen him since 1963 but always hoped to one day reconnect with him. My deepest sympathies go out to his family.
When in High School at Elmont, I played on the football team. While I did not know Tom very well, he was a teammate and he did seem to be a really good guy. I haven't seen or have had contact with Tom since HS, but I would venture a guess then he became a "Stand Up" sort of adult. He entered the Nassau County PD right after HS and I understand he advanced there during his career in law enforcement.
I was so sorry to hear that Tommy passed away. I haven't seen him since shortly after our graduation. It was in the summer of '63 and a few of us were in the parking lot of the Community Inn and Tommy pulled up, in uniform, in a Nassau County patrol car. We had a few laughs and I never saw him again. I've been gone almost since then but I'd heard that he did well in law enforcement. He was a really good guy, and that's the best thing anyone can say about someone.
When I read the message from Mary about Tom's passing I was shocked since I think of all of us as still in High School. During these last few months I have been telling local friends and family members of sitting in Mr. Khami's (sp) English class with all of the top tier students, due to a scheduling glitch. Sitting in front of Tom Allen he and I would play table football since I know, I never understood what was going on in that high level Engllish class. I must say that Tom helped me to get better at the only sport I ever played...desk football. Fast forward to my first year at UCONN, I flunked freshman English and had to take it again, at Nassau Community College and Mr. Khami was the instructor........fortunately, I did pass it the second time around.....and thanks to Tom Allen I was able to perfect my desk football game as a junior high school teach. Thank you Tom!

Sadly, I think we have all lost a good man.

Played basketball with TA for EMHS and we had many good times off the court as well. He was always a stand up guy you could always count on.
He will be missed.
